For April’s Westsylvania Album of the Month we’re checking in on what Sonny Landreth, our 2014 blues headliner, has been up to. His 2015 release, Bound by the Blues, returns Landreth to his musical roots. You’ll him name-check Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and more in the title track, and you’ll hear their influence throughout. Playing with the same touring trio he brought to Westsylvania, he reinvents classics like “It Hurts Me Too”, “Key to the Highway” and “Dust My Broom,” while debuting strong originals like “Where They Will” and “Firebird Blues”—a tribute to the late, great Johnny Winter.
Choice tracks: “Walking Blues” and “Bound by the Blues”
Westsylvania Albums of the Month are (mostly) new releases from artists who have played the festival. Check back next month for more!
