May the Fourth Be With You
Display artist and Indiana resident Rob Black has donated a one-of-a-kind art piece to the Indiana Arts Council Council to be auctioned in support of Westsylvania Weekend, which includes the Delaney Chevrolet Westsylvania Jazz and Blues Festival and the Westsylvania Arts Fest.
“Woody Vader” is the artist’s proof-of-concept of a display model made for Hasbro by Maro Display in Providence, RI. It would go into production for displays at Toys R Us stores in 2006.
Made of wood-grained, heavy gauge polystyrene that was vacuum-formed over an original, clay form. It is large, at 24" wide, 28" tall, and 28" deep, rigged and suitable for hanging.
While final piece would of course be produced in black plastic, Woody Vader’s unique appearance is due to the material the artist had available to work with at the time.
“Woody Vader” is being auctioned via the Givebutter nonprofit fundraising platform and available for viewing in-person at The Artists Hand Gallery, 732 Philadelphia Street in Indiana.
