Guitarist and vocalist John Bagnato has studied with pioneering jazz musicians Don Cherry and Geri Allen. While living in pre-Katrina New Orleans, he recorded with Mario Adnet, Bill Summers, and Trombone Shorty. During this same period, Bagnato performed and toured internationally with Big Chief Donald Harrison Jr.
In addition to Los Hombres Calientes, Vol. 3: New Congo Square, a GRAMMY nominee for Best Latin Jazz Album, Bagnato has contributed to theater scores and award-winning film and television soundtracks.
He has also performed with Wu Tang Clan, Busta Rhymes, and India.Arie Simpson.
For DCWJBF 24, Bagnato’s trio will feature fellow Johnstown native and violinist Tim Wetmiller.
Now based in Seattle, Wetmiller is known for his improvisation skills and dexterity, switching among styles ranging from "gypsy jazz to Western swing to Latin and Cuban," according to the Tribune-Democrat.
